Little Soldier

Restrictions and conviction
all on the right side of God
and what happens
if we don't fit the mold
if we don't fit
what we have been told
march on little soldier
march on
take the time to think
long and hard
slight of hand
hidden card
king of diamonds
queen of hearts
heart hearts
bleeding hearts
worn reluctantly
like her crown
slipping down
that slope of rational
and madness
main vein slice
weak in the knees
another attempt
another failure
skip to the last page
and read ahead
and when you get
to the best part
remember to start
from the beginning again
repetitive action
a minority fraction
societal reaction
march on little soldier
march on...

King And Queen Of The Prom

I can walk
down the street
with my wings glistening
in the moonlight
and my skirt hiked
up to Heaven
I can carry
a tune
and write
the lyrics
with my eyes
glazed over
from the lack
of empathy
One hit wonder
fly by night
captivator
feet never
firmly planted
on the ground
Surround sound
and all that
matters...
We were flying high
We were invincible
The king and queen
of the prom
neither went to
We were untouchable
Golden sparks flying
into an endless night

We were flying high
We were invincible
The king and queen
of the prom
neither went to
We were untouchable
Golden sparks flying
into an endless night

Rising Tides - 2013

Such a wise guy
flip response
makes me laugh out loud
while emotions roll over
like the Queen mother's wave
during centennial this or that
can't quite recall
the gist
or intention of celebration
but there is a shift in the universe
and it's dragging me along
...oh what a delightful ride
no time for one liners
the depth of my soul
touches the Atlantic to the bone
and you have a gleam in your eyes
that makes me question
all that once seemed so mundane
and now the light that shines
throws a brilliant ray of glistening hope
casting away shadows and demons
from a long over due past
my protective garb
no longer serves its purpose
and black linen does me no justice
while standing knee deep in the rising tide
of good will and precious love...
