Dream On Dream On

Dream on
Dream on and on
He says
Only 27 questions
To answer
And then you
Will know
....how to fall in love
Sitting in a cozy bar
Some place in Brooklyn
The candle light softens
The harsher lines
That have grown
Across the brow
And marionette lines
That make a smile
More of an conscious effort
Than the natural way
Your lips once parted
Corners turned up
Cherub's bow kissable
As the years dance on
Dance on and on
The answers reveal
More than his
Heart's intentions
And yours races
Out of insecurity
Not for lack of lust
Or passion
But more out of
A sense of caution
...these days
To set the fire slowly
Rather than burn in a blaze
Of no regrets and short felt glory
Dream on
Dream on and on
He says
Only 26 questions
Left to answer
And then you
Will know
....how to fall in love

Un-reciprocated Possibilities

Words dripping from my lips
mid sentence lapse of judgment
makes no sense to let them fall
but I'm feeling empty headed
And I can't get beyond my own thoughts
and on a better day I would know
it's not about you at all...
- this is just about me

... now I'm stumbling around
like one of the three blind mice,
and maybe I should be undercover
but I can't seem to get out of my own way
and you could look right through me
and not have a thing to say
 - and it would be alright

Maybe you did not feel the burn the way I did
or the earth move beneath your feet
And it doesn't really matter
because I can only speculate about you
and only speak honestly for me...

I'm still mesmerized by the glow - basking in the glory
of un-reciprocated possibilities
and everyone has their own version
even though it sounds like the same story
- this is just about me

... now I'm stumbling around
like one of the three blind mice,
and maybe I should be undercover
but I can't seem to get out of my own way
and you could look right through me
and not have a thing to say
- and it would be alright

Inconsequential Meeting

Had a dream about you last night;
seems since we had our inconsequential meeting -
inconsequential feels so removed
and so cold
and my head hurts when I think
and I'm starting to feel too old
to be a player in the dating game
... anyway

Confirmation washes over me
like the cold waters of a great sea
confirmation washes over me

When I saw you my childhood sense
of insecurity was shaken;
sort of rattled my proverbial ego sustained cage,
and now I'm reading the same lines
over and over again
still on the same damn page -
- expecting a different ending

Confirmation washes over me
like the cold waters of a great sea
confirmation washes over me

I never know what to think
when thinking is all I have time to do
I never know what to think
when the heart beats one way
and the other is slightly out of sync
...just never know how to feel
since my inconsequential meeting with you
And now I don't know what to think
... anyway

I had a dream about you ...

Heaven, Hell or Brooklyn

Walking beyond the dunes
sea grass slips
between my fingers
The roar of the ocean
calms my nerves
and I remember
how you felt
beneath the waves
The Siren's song whistles
in the night carried
by an ocean breeze;
and every night your memory
brings me to my knees
And I wonder...
Heaven, Hell or Brooklyn - where is love

Gates of Heaven open wide
but I'm lost in Hell's grip
held tight in Hell's grip -
I'm the prom queen that was never crowned
I'm the missing chapter in my own lyrical book
Dylan-esque quality but he choked on my words
how brilliantly absent minded
how brilliantly absurd

Last night I walked into a bar,
not sure if my wounds were covered,
not sure if I'd gone to far
but your blue eyes lit the way
making it easy not to stumble
making it easy to imagine
with a kiss so deep,
vows never to be broken
and I'm at a loss for words
and don't know what to say
So now I wonder...
Heaven, Hell or Brooklyn - when is love going to stay

You have that last nail in the coffin look
Not a criminal or a crook
But you stole my heart from me
Pages folded over in the last chapter of my lyrical book
Heaven, Hell or Brooklyn - when is love going to set me free

Maintaining faith hasn't always been kind,
but never mind,
I fell asleep during the best part
While your eyes look deep into mine
God only knows it's a fresh start
And now I'm wondering
wondering out loud
wondering about Heaven Hell or Brooklyn

Where is the love that's supposed to carry me through
Where is the love that I've been hanging on to
Faith isn't just for the weary,
Faith isn't just for the forgotten
Maybe I shouldn't have spoken so boldly,
maybe I should have kept my mouth shut
but fuck, what have I got to lose

I'm the prom queen that was never crowned
I'm a missing chapter in my own lyrical book
Dylan-esque quality, but he choked on my words
how brilliantly absent minded
how brilliantly absurd...

Heaven Hell or Brooklyn - where is love now

Mr. Who Knows Who

All that crazy anticipation
build up and worry
as if yesterday
was a blank page
And all the steps taken
have somehow
been washed away
like footsteps in the sand - how cliche!
I remember laughing
about all those old sayings
one night during a brief love affair
he filled my glass of wine up
for the 3rd time
smiling with such intent
saying, "Man, who are they trying to kid!
...rather have loved and lost
than to have never loved at all -
or, something like, if you set it free
and it doesn't come back
it was never yours to begin with..."
Man what a kick
Man what a time
for jokes and one liners
from men like Henny Youngman,
"I've been in love with the same woman
for forty-one years
if my wife finds out she'll kill me..."
The corners of my mouth
turn up and I laugh -
so politically incorrect...yea no kidding man!
Even between all the laughter
and long talks - we faded
off in different directions
but that wasn't a news flash
we both knew from day one
nothing was going to come
of what ever this was or wasn't
just passing time
drinking wine
making love and laughing -
sometimes we would
slow dance in the living room,
...candles flickering
sexy shadows on the walls...
to some off the grid
blues tune...
At the time everything was perfection
in its own light -
but, it was those long drives home
late at night
that set me free
And now...I find myself
walking to a bar in Brooklyn
to meet Mr. Who Knows Who
and for just a moment
there is this rush
the feeling of soft warm hands
occasionally touching mine -
We laugh and talk
as he fills up my glass
of wine
for the 3rd time...
