Kisses In The Dark

Glass slipper shatters
As you walk on water
Like the second coming
Of someone of substance
Someone we have
All been longing for
Only you care about the timing
Of this desperate game
Life and all its little
...inconsequential - s
Universal plan falls
Neatly into place
Like domino's standing
In a carefully placed row
One behind the other
If one hand trembles
Tin soldiers tumble and
Suicide bombers explode
At the sound
Of bells ringing
In a far, far away land
But, I have forgotten
The truth
And color of your eyes
And you
You can't recall my name
So with a bitter sweet farewell
- 21 gun salute and flags flown
At a mournful half staff
I bid to you and yours
Whom ever they may be
A happy and prosperous new year
Words of warning as you turn
Strut and stagger away
One glass too many
One glass is never enough
Like kisses in the dark
That slowly lead to paradise
Head tipped to the left
Sympathetically diving off the curve
Last words slur and drip
From your oh so seductive lips
"...don't accept Canadian coin
from strangers and never cross Jack..."
The one eyed man observes more
Than just you and me
His days are numbered with good intentions
- one to ten and counting
And always, always remember
To pause and reflect while twisting
Your personally monogrammed
Sterling silver knife
That one last meaningful

Reluctantly Fade Away

Waited past midnight
for stones to be tossed
on my window pane,
Til the Sand Man
made his way
sending me on an alternative
journey ~
Mr. Goodbar
took my hand
leading me to dreams
of another
kind...
Singing lullabies
with fingers crossed
and a wink of transparent eyes...

You - reluctantly fade away ~

Early morning light,
rays shinning through
cracks shades drawn...
They spoke
in hushed tones
of old and new
as if you had been
mislaid,
Only I knew
of your true demise
and your favorite
hiding places~
Their veracity and rhetoric
suffocated you
to the core,
With secret ties
and swaying lies,
clutching hands
like a deceptive
lover...
Some bonds
are never broken,
easily...
hearts and spirits untamed
We would kiss
in filtered shadows,
hiding from the storm...
As the grains of sand
unknowingly slipped
beneath our feet
Yours and mine,
entwined promises -
slit of the wrist
our blood
mingles
Lovers in the night ~
And time is of no value
in a world indulging
illusive rants
and raves
While outside,
looking beyond
the golden gates and
high walls...
I wonder,
Do you remember me
...more thought
than question posed...
Touching deep,
a bullet lodged
in the left side
of your brain
You were
an easy target
with an X
conveniently
marking the spot
"...taking a breath now,
...is like a dagger's jagged edge..."
"...never cutting clean through..."
your whispered words
subside
I miss your smile -
corners taped
with glimmering hope
the naivete
in your eyes
now glazed over
and gray
A permanent reality
has been fit
to an inconsequential mold -
And you no longer
really exist...
...and...I

I - reluctantly fade away ~

Second Wind Next Life

Ten second spin off
you still can't
recall my name
and if I blink
you
would fade away
only the scent
of yesterday remains
you don't
hold a candle
to him
my Angel in the night
Blue Moon Belgian style
wheat ale
is a cheap and much welcomed
buzz
words from a stranger
send a chill
like a sharp shooter
your aim
was off
missing your target
without intention
or thought
too much pressure
on where we are
where we have been
self help groups
are the fall guy
for winners in disguise
walking away
with much more than pride
ego can mask
only so much
when life throws
a curve ball
sliding home
is not an option
when that safe haven
slipped away
years ago
I still wonder
what road
I would have traveled
if I hadn't been on the run
grabbing this and that
along the way
carpetbagger by trade
inherent scene of survival
never giving up the ghost
hanging on for dear life
and praying
for a quick release

Darling I'll see you at the cross roads....second wind, next life...

Self Portrait ~ October 2010

Womanofthepage

Oh to be
Virginia Woolf
for a moment
in time
when words flowed
creative process
encumbered by despair
precious pearls of wisdom
masked with conversation
sharing verse and wine with
the Bloomsbury Group
that freed a burdened soul
brilliant sorrow deep
a pocket full of rocks
and a long deliberate walk
off a short seductive pier
sinking deep
into the abyss
solidifying a place
in literary history
of the elite,
the avant garde
songs sung
memorializing
the mystery
intrigue
tragic romance
darkness engulfs
all rational
the frigid River Ouse
like a Knight In Shining Armor
arms wrapped around her
as liberator
salvation
read her words and weep

I am WomanOfThePage ~
