Time Together

I recall those dreams you had
the way they put a smile on your face;
the way life used to take you by storm

...but never caught you off guard
Now and then I come to terms
with all that we once had
and all that we could not hold onto

As hard as we tried it slipped away
like the wind in a storm that passes
without intention or direction...
Once you held my heart in your hand
said all the right words,
all that I wanted to hear;
and you meant every single

sweet word and hushed moments
But we didn’t know
what was around the next turn
so we never looked ahead
...and that’s not a short coming,
only life and how one lives;
we lived so close to the perimeter

You could feel the razors edge
cutting into your skin
like a knife to the heart
and nothing would be left
when all was said and done

Now you have moved
to another space in time
where angel’s songs ring in my ears
And I’ll stand on the cliff of our time together
and never forget you - I will never forget you...

Distant Drummer

Tiny pearls of wisdom
worn like a thorny crown
fall delicately

and lay in contrast
against tanned skin
of a woman's breast;
who once held
a passion for love
in the palm of her hand

As a sea breeze
dances around her,
her precious soul floats
along the widows walk
without intent

Subtleties of a moment
captured like

a ship in a bottle;
slight slip of sand
beneath her bare feet
Yet, she can still hear
the music in the wind
as it carries her heart
to that distant drummer
and hope is always there,

always on the up beat…

Footsteps In The Sand

When the veil is shed layer by layer
A glimmering light from the never forgotten
Is dulled by the glow of a not to distant future
A shift in ones heart beat and state of mind
Will ride out the storm that peacefully anticipates
The reoccurrence when the Widow meets the Captain
From years ago on a tempestuous night
In a far a way land when the past and present
Did not collide leading two souls
To fall from one pedestal to another
Only to land in loving hands
That could not be denied
Yet forbidden in a world
Of choice and morality
Atonement as a Guardian Angel
So lines do not become blurred
Or washed out to sea
As the tide sweeps away
Lover’s footsteps in the sand
Only to long for another time
To create those footsteps once again…
