Let It Go

Saw myself
running
in my dreams
Heard the crash
of the rising tide
Like a child's lullaby
I let its soothing sound
rush up
and rush over me
And in the loneliest
moments
I knew
there really wasn't
much left to do
...but let it go,
let it go
Looking up
into the deepest
blue sky
never found a reason
or wondered why
But in the loneliest
moments
time stood still
and I was mesmerized
by the deepest blue
in the clarity
of your eyes
- And there we were
just you and me
standing hand in hand
rising tide rushing up
and rushing over
you and me
Hand in hand rising tide
and I knew
there really wasn't
much left to do
but let it go, let it go
...I let it go

I Long For You

The moon hangs low
wrapping the night
in a magical blanket
of Florence city lights
Off in the distance
late night cathedral
bells ring
Roof top view
overlooking
the Arno River
Lights glisten
on the Ponte Vecchio
Lovers walk holding hands;
a kiss and a photo op
A lifetime of memories made  -
Locks of love
tell their own story
Slowly sipping a glass
of local Merlot
I wonder how many
of those stories
have stood
the test of time
A toast to you
and yours
and all that have come
and gone before and after
 - Eyes wide with amazement
I can't help but wonder...
What it would feel like,
what would it be like
to share such moments
To point to the stars
and make a connected wish
To share our favorite vino
Chat about the days experience;
give and take
your perspective
and mine intertwine
What would I think
if you held my face
in your hands
and kissed my mouth
Whispering I love you bella
Taking my breath away
Stopping time,
earth moves;
all the cliches
all the romantic poetic verse
tossed together
impacting my heart
like a hurricane
- Roof top view
overlooking
the Arno River
Lights glisten
on the Ponte Vecchio
a rush of wind
my emotions
are as clear
as the view
stars shine bright
above the city of Florence
and my heart knows
... I long for you

The Edge

Cafe Dark Nights
For the sleek and slender
Of mind and heart
The scent of cappuccino
And espresso brewing
Poured seductively
Into delicate imported
Fine China cups
Intellectual chatter floats
As light as a feather
From table to candle lit table
With a Beatnik snap
Of the fingers - an antiquated signal
Of artistic approval
Long pause and a deep sigh
Your body brushes past
My emotionally charged senses
And a mental note is made
The mind surrenders
To a fantasy land
Of black seamed silk stockings
And hard passionate kisses
A scene from Cabaret
We make the best
Of last chances - one more time
As provocative poetry is read
The spoken word brings life
And added ambiance to the candle light
Burning your eyes into mine
Your hand belongs in mine
Such a perfect fit
Like a Gucci glove that costs - too much
But we have been willing - to spend
What we don't have
What we can't afford
With hope and optimism
The next step is casually mentioned
Never seeing the light of day
Because we both know
The high price of living
So close - to the edge

Music Time

I fell in love with a boy
who held music in his hands
like a fragile thought
that could easily slip away
it filled his heart
like there was never
enough time
for all the notes to play
making his chest ache
the way mine did
every time he kissed
my finger tips
we would make love
on the music room floor
while searching for inspiration
knowing it was only
moments away
nothing seemed beyond our reach
so we would wait
and watch the sunrise
slowly coming up and over the city streets
there is such beauty in the breaking of dawn
hitting high notes within the perfection
of a continuous and endless line
listening closely until we couldn't - dance any more
...remember my name - he'd say
I would look deep into his eyes
while strumming my guitar
never missing a note
his face etched in the most cherished
place in my mind and we both knew
I was his and he was mine
we would be forever - connected in music time

Wise Ass Kid

Those days
When thoughts
Swirled around
In my mind
Creating an energy
Cause and effect
Suddenly out of thin air
A call or note
Song from the past
A nudge from
Turbulent times
A cosmic force connects
A reminder tap tap
You can never go back
Although I lean on the belief
Nothing is set in stone
Except birth and death
Those sweet innocent days
Are few and far between
So be careful who you
Day dream about
Strangers appear
In familiar garb
Time passes snap
and mindful images
Never seem to fade
Wishful thinking
Is an independent luxury
Like a journey to an exotic
Far away unknown land
Scrolling through photographs
and tag lines eyes blur to focus
Wondering playfully - pause
What's going to happen next
The wheels turn slower
and the clock ticks louder
Adjusting the bar downward
Dragging realistic wants and needs
Lacking subtle expectations
To an abrupt unexpected halt
Gears jam and all I can do
Is scream profanities into a void
Pathetic reminiscent childlike questions
and obscene childlike gestures
Blurted out with no rational
Like a wise ass kid hanging
On any city street corner
In any city in the world
Unique - not unto its own
Self absorbed truth seeker
Asking why always why
As if expecting some profound
Heavenly answer to fall peacefully
Settling at my feet
Like a feather from the nest
Pride is a virtue
Ego is a vice
I continuously stumble around
Exhausted from the battle
My internal war rages on ...

It's Not How Many Notes You Play

It’s not how many notes
How many notes you play

It’s the spaces in between
Like lines between words
Of woe or endearment
It's the silence
That lingers in the air
Silence that lingers
After making love
Spaces in between - lines, notes, words
Silence floats
Peacefully above
Floats peacefully
While lovers embrace
Quiet gentle embrace
Where words
Like notes
Are better left to linger
In the reverie
Of perfection - unspoken
It’s not how many notes you play
It’s the spaces in between
It’s not how many words you say…

End Of Summer Collection Part 1

You Can Call Me Scarlet

Let’s take a walk
down the avenue
buy roasted chestnuts in September
you can hold my hand
while wearing your best disguise
smile and whisper seductively
"…baby you are so easy on the eyes…"

You can call me Scarlet ~

Women Of The Sea

The wind rages from the west
Across the main land filling sails
Sending the day from

Point to point
Tack
Mainsail luff
"Come about…”
A thought that never makes its way
From brain wave to verbal vibration -
All hands on deck a solo act
When solitude is the destination
Of least resistance
Peace rises between layers
Of wind and cloud
9 knots with 8 foot swells
Adrenalin hits a high note
As if Satchmo were crew
Blowing old favorites
From a time when life was a mystery
Or what we thought it could be –
Temptation drifts off
Into the slow burn of a sunset
Memories find a harmonious harbor
To rest during an inevitable storm
Slow sway
Sentimental echo
Making lovers dance
Babies dream

While women of the sea
Gaze beyond the horizon…

So Many Places We Can Go

Change always comes
and I spend my summers
flying high without a care
I have to
or I wouldn't survive
so now with a clean slate
baby you look
like someone
I used to know
someone
I used to know
someone
I need to know
and even though
every thought
is black and blue
shaded colors like a bruise
the center of the universe
holds more for us
it holds more for us -
Lovers come and lovers go
but when they dare reach
deep inside and don't hesitate,
when they feel that bounce back
reflection mirrored image
black and blue
the center of the universe,
yes,
the core of the universe
between me and maybe you...
we have to know
It's worth even those moments
all those moments
when we are on our knees;
bloody sweat soaked t-shirt
tells another story,
wrapped tightly
around the main source
of heartache -
Come on it's an apocalypse,
it's that slippery slope
we've come to know
it's that slippery slope
we've been warned about
Put your arms around me,
and hold me close
close your eyes
kiss me deeper
than we bury our dead,
kiss me until
you reveal your soul -
steal mine if you like
it's yours to own
Put your arms around me,
and hold me close
close your eyes,
close your eyes
there are so many places we can go
there are so many places we can go...

Delicately Choreographed Dance

By the end
of this
dream life
as we
glide
or stumble
from path
to journey
road block
or stepping stone
not a macabre
scheme
in the moment
unaware
of the transformation
the information
the lack of overload
double-fisted
hands of fate
stride in
never tipping
"its" intention
knowing full well
ignorance
is not a defense
in the land
of the law
the freedom
of choice
the unwritten
page in our
personal stories...
but is a gift
from God
at times
and others
a curse
you my friend
though you try
I'm sure...
between word
and song
sip of wine
catch yourself
letting go
drifting off
across the sound
can not forget
may not recall
my name
...out loud
in an awkward
moment
or
the deepest
color of my eyes
transparent brown
but you will
in that place
held close
to the vest
where the heart
protects
Pandora's box
...we've come to call
dare not open
except
on precious occasion
in the privacy
of your own
desire
for a tender
moment
interlude
set of circumstance
caesura
the harmony
that was shared
within a breath
between
two people
on a path
that intersected
not so long ago
will not
be denied...

We are not frozen
isolated in a prism
variegation
memories sojourn
we are a
delicately
choreographed dance...

Will Never Know

Stress level up
hits a high
not even time
to peak
from beneath
the end zone
of what
has yet to come
when all else fails
there is no way
out
but
to pull the
cord
on an empty
parachute
while silver
spoons
line lip stick
shades drawn
childlike images
willow branches
bending
quiet summer
breeze
wisps of clouds
covered smoke
cinder blocks
fall
to the point
of absurdity
and tho
the mind
has slowed
and often
skips a beat
from time
to off time
in those profound
instances
when nothing is known
and everything else
is  sheer
propaganda
Photoshop splits
the facts
reality is less and less
a common thread
from living life
to walking a fine
line
of faith and understanding
what you did
what someone told
And as the Tower of Babble
wags
another tale
take me
down paths
of "milk and honey"
with the promise
silk linens thread
count
grains of sand
slipping passionately
through my fingers
lovers seldom bought
and never grow old
my hands begin to tremble
and I am aware once again
... of what I will never know...
