Poems 2009

Beyond The Fog

Early morning light peers through tiny cracks like a private eye - subtle surveillance
Between nightmares and day-dreams there is a harsh sense that shoots across the sky
As reality focuses on the blurred vision of weary eyes and the only time line has spanned the universe
A love that lives in another sphere…what is there after you?
The question lay still and the answers are silent…

For certain, one day follows the next,
the sun will rise and the sun will set…
the tide is high and the tide is low…
the night comes and the morning goes…

I wake up knowing that there is something more and yet there is no clarity beyond the fog of my own imagination…

Recognition

A few side steps and off the curve
for a while there is a time and place
to bat your eyes and lick your lips
as if the package is all that matters
and in those moments when
the label tastes better than the wine
and the left hand on your Rolex
gets stuck between AM and PM
in a hesitating movement
that never gets beyond the here and now
remember where you came from
not just where you’re headed
because at the end of the day
all that matters is what you hold
dear to your heart
even if it is gently worn
on the sleeve of your designer suit
with an occasional nod of recognition
to what once was…

Dreamer

Early morning sunlight shines through lace curtains
Casting delicate intricate patterns
Over my quilted four poster feather bed
That gently cradles this dreamer’s wrestling heart
Creating elaborate tales where love lasts forever
Kisses are deep with passion
Fingers entwined engulfing more
Than the hand of a lover
But the soul of a life mate
When each reverie shifts
From one scene to the next
Like a romantic movie
Sometimes black and white
Sometime Technicolor
Always floating slightly above the sea
With the ability to feel a warm breeze blowing
Tenderly caressing my face, playfully tussling my hair
In a place where there is much more to cherish
Then just my time in waking hours ~

Doctor’s Orders

Pop a little pink pill Trilby,
Let the RX take your blues away
When time passes, at your own pace of course,
The dose will double to get you over the hump
Like a Wednesday in a normal week,
When normal is unidentifiable,
If you are predictable
Following the path of grief
All five of its stages
A withdrawal process will begin
Fair warning it has a life all of its own,
Not reminiscent of the one that was lost…
An easing back into the real world,
The reality that was over medicated,
The pain that was anesthetized like a patient having a tooth pulled,
Only now the crutch will be kick out from under you
You will learn to walk on your own,
You will learn to feel the loss,
You will cope and move forward
From a change that took place
When you were as weak as a new born child
Now it’s time to face the music
Off in the distance all I can hear is Son House wailing…

I got a letter this mornin, how do you reckon it read?
It said, "Hurry, hurry, yeah, your love is dead"
I got a letter this mornin, I say how do you reckon it read?
You know, it said, "Hurry, hurry, how come the gal you love is dead?"

So, I grabbed up my suitcase, and took off down the road.....

New Year 2009

A new year - 2009, there are times when I have no words of my own to express this journey - the occasional glimmer of hope or a slight light beyond all the shadows. Jerry will always be with me in my heart and my thoughts.
A New Years poem by Brock a writer on DA.

MEMORY

And you wait, await the one thing
that will infinitely increase your life;
the gigantic, the stupendous,
the awakening of stones,
depths turned round toward you.

The volumes in brown and gold
flicker dimly on the bookshelves;
and you think of lands traveled through,
of paintings, of the garments
of women found and lost.

And then all at once you know: that was it.
You rise, and there stands before you
the fear and prayer and shape
of a vanished year.
